My sister is coming on choir tour!

Hey, guys! My sister transferred from a boarding school in Arkansas this year to up north near Sacramento. So she and her choir are coming down to South California for choir concerts. I don’t know if some of you live in the area, but they’re coming down to Fallbrook SDA Church next Saturday night. I can’t wait! My friend Lindsey is going to be there, too! Anyways, I have to go practice my flute! Ugh… Bye! ūüėČ

Good Books Recommended!

Hey, guys! So you saw the title, huh? Good! Because I read some really awesome books I want to share with you guys. Here they are!

  1. ¬†¬† Joseph (by Terri L. Fivash) It’s a great Christian book about the life of Joseph!
  2.    Dahveed (same author, Terri L. Fivash) Another great book about Dahveed! Which is actually David in Hebrew. You also learn a little bit of Hebrew in these book series too!
  3. Shakespeare’s Secret, by Elise Broach. A great mystery book!

Yep, those are pretty much the three books I love the most. Be sure to check them out!

shining rivers

shining rivers

shining rivers run so placidly

fill my ears with harmony

large fish swim in the blue river

the sun shines splendidly

when rains come, they come

raindrops splatter on window

the pit-pat lulls you to sleep

you sleep as the rain continues

then awake as it slowly stops

you look outside and see dew

sparkling on green grass tips

you lay back down on your fluffy bed

and fall asleep as shining and rippling rivers

fill your sleepy mind once again.

Did you guys like the poem I wrote? It’s my first time writing my own poem. I’ve been taking IEW lessons, and my writing has became much better. It’s really fun, too! Well, I have to go. Bye! *wink wink*

Save the Pangolins and Giraffes!

Hey, guys! I’m pretty sure you guys know what a pangolin is, right? If you don’t, listen carefully, because this is a serious situation. The pangolins are an animal, mainly eating ants. Yes, I’m starting to sound like a National Geographic narrator, don’t I? *laughs* Anyways, pangolins are in serious danger. I borrowed a documentary about pangolins from the library, and I was shocked greatly. The video stated that the pangolin is the most heavily trafficked animal in the world. Trafficked animal basically means that they are just scooped up and stolen. And since pangolins are very shy and secretive creatures, they roll up into a ball when they are being threatened, and that makes it easy for poachers to steal them illegally. In the last 10 years, poachers have killed more than 1,000 tigers, 11,000 rhinos, and 1,000,000 pangolins. Shocking, isn’t it? Also, us Chinese people have used their meat as a delicacy. I mean, I’ve never eaten pangolin meat before, and I never will! Plus, Chinese people have been using pangolin scales as an ingredient for traditional medicine. All in all, pangolins are seriously endangered. So please, pray for the pangolin and do something to help support the organizations that are trying to help the pangolin. If we humans sit around here and do nothing, the pangolin will become extinct. And pangolins really are fascinating creatures, and they help keep the ant population down.

All right, on to giraffes! *giggles* Yes, I’m on fire for Africa’s endangered animals. I mean, if God created all these wonderful, amazing animals for us to enjoy, shouldn’t it be up to us to protect them? Here are some facts about giraffes, one of the many endangered animals of Africa.

Three decades ago, in the 1980s, the total number of all giraffe in Africa was estimated
at approximately 155,000 individuals. The International Union for the Conservation of
Nature (IUCN) Species Survival Commission (SSC) Giraffe & Okapi Specialist Group and GCF estimate the current Africa-wide giraffe population to be less than 100,000 individuals. This is a drop of almost 40%. In some areas traditionally regarded as prime giraffe real estate, numbers have dropped by more than 95%. Read more about giraffe numbers here.

Giraffe numbers have dropped significantly during recent years and giraffe are under a lot of pressure. IUCN SSC Giraffe & Okapi Specialist Group in collaboration with GCF has recently submitted updated assessments of giraffe numbers to the IUCN Red List ‚Äď so stay tuned. With the exception of Angolan, South and West African giraffe, all other subspecies are either decreasing or unstable. Habitat loss, habitat fragmentation, habitat degradation, poaching, and ultimately human population growth continue to impact on giraffe and their habitat across the continent.

While recent research has shown that there are in fact four giraffe species and not only one, the IUCN currently still recognises giraffe as one species. It is hoped that this updated information will soon be taken into consideration by the IUCN for future conservation assessments.

In December 2016 giraffe (as a single¬†species) were uplisted to ‚ÄėVulnerable‚Äô to extinction on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Two subspecies are currently listed as ‚ÄėEndangered‚Äô.

IUCN Red List

  • Vulnerable: as a species ‚Äď Giraffa camelopardalis
  • Endangered: West African giraffe (G. c. peralta)
  • Endangered: Rothschild‚Äôs giraffe (G. c. rothschildi ‚Ästnow subsumed into Nubian giraffe G. c. camelopardalis)

I give credit to Giraffe Conservation¬† for these facts. Sorry, my fingers were starting to cramp, and I was getting tired. *grins* All in all, giraffes are being threatened by the clearing of their habitat, the poaching of them, and etc. So pray for these animals, and I’m fundraising for these lovely animals which God has given us. Thanks, guys!

Carissa

Am I Still Bad?

Image result for sunset shimmer
I walked down the hall, nervously looking from side to side. People glared at me,and I
lowered my head. Why are people acting this way to me? I wondered. I wasn’t watching
where I was going, and bumped into Micro Chips.

“Oof!”he fell on the floor. I rubbed my head and extended my hand to help him up. He looked at me, his face terrified, and placed his lunch money on my hand.

I looked at it,confused and suddenly felt anger surging within me. “I DON’T WANT YOUR LUNCH MONEY! I’M NOT MEAN ANYMORE! OK?”I yelled at him, shaking him as people watched fearfully behind me.

He scrambled to his feet and ran away in fear.

I sighed and felt tears behind my eyes. What happened? Just yesterday I was working on the yearbook with my friends and met this shy girl,Wallflower Blush. And today, all of those friends had said I wasn’t their friend! It was just too confusing!

Maybe Princess Twilight can help! The though suddenly came into mind, and a smile lighted up my face. I stepped outside of the school and walked to the monument. I glanced from side to side, then walked into the portal. I closed my eyes and a few moments later felt my hooves under me. I was back in Equestria!

I teetered on my hooves and tried to hug Twilight. “Oops, I was trying to hug you!”I apologized.

Twilight smiled warmly at me. It was kinda strange to see her as a pony. At least we were friends.

“This is bad,Sunset. It’s beyond anything I’ve ever heard of,”Twilight said as we walked in the castle. “However,I just had an idea. But I’m not so sure you’ll like it.”

“I’ll do anything to get my friends back. Please, who is it?”I pleaded earnestly.

“There is one pony who might be able to help. But I’m not so sure you two want to see each other.”

“Who?” I asked.

Twilight grimaced and hesitated. It was then I realized who it was.

“Ohhhh,”I said slowly. Ever since I had left Equestria and gone to the other world, I’d always thought about Princess Celestia.

I finally relented and we walked through the huge double doors of Princess Celestia’s fancy castle.

Princess Celestia saw us coming, and spread her wings, making her look more authoritative than ever. I winced and lowered my head, my mane rippling.

“Hehehe, sooo….. Princess Celestia! You’ll never guess who’s back! Actually, you might guess, ’cause she’s standing right in front of you. But ummm…” Twilight trailed off, feeling awkward.

Princess Celestia just looked at us more sternly than ever. Luna did the same.

“Am I helping??”Twilight whispered to me, smiling sheepishly.

I let my breath out with a small whoosh and stepped forward. “Princess Celestia, the last time we saw each other, I was your snide, little pupil who betrayed and abandoned you.”

“I wouldn’t have said it that way! What Sunset means to say is-” Twilight explained nervously, but was cut off by a wave of my hoof.

” What I mean to say is that I come before you a changed pony,¬† humbly asking for your forgiveness, mercy, and guidance,”I closed my eyes, praying that she would understand.

When I opened my eyes, Princess Celestia was plodding down the long aisle towards me, her wings at her sides, and as she came closer, she looked down at me even more sternly than before. I winced again and backed away. “Or, if you just want me to go away and never come back, I’m fine with that too,”I finished, certain that I was doomed.

A hoof cupped my chin, and I looked up. It was Princess Celestia.

A smile played at the corners of her mouth, gradually stretching into a gentle smile. “I’ve missed you, Sunset Shimmer.”

I looked down, suddenly feeling ashamed. “I’m-I’m so sorry,” I whispered. Princess Celestia smiled warmly and hugged me.

Princess Twilight smiled widely in the background.
